A major touring installation, combining art and science, will turn people’s perceptions of relaxing on the sofa on its head. Fidget is a pop-up carousel created by artist Michael Pinsky. Within his architectural installation, visitors can participate in a series of quirky activities to learn about the difference that even moderate movement can make to their lives. Six modules, each containing an item of furniture and a television, offer the visitor an opportunity to view short films, but only if they undertake some level of minimal exercise. The colour coded stations allow the participant to progress from lying on a sofa using a remote control, to suspending themselves up-side-down within a domestic scene, whilst their ‘fidget line’ is broadcast from the summit of the carousel. Facilitators will assist the participants through the course, whilst explaining the science of fidgeting. Michael Pinsky collaborated with Dr Wilby Williamson to develop the Fidget campaign which has been produced by London Arts in Health Forum and funded by the Wellcome Trust.
