‘My dialogue with China has been profound….I know that my presence in China has influenced aspects of Chinese thinking about sculpture and that I have been deeply influenced by the culture, history and the people of that country, and the changes which have taken place over the last few years.’ Michael Lyons FRBS. This exhibition brings together a concentrated body of work inspired by a long standing involvement with China spanning the last 15 years both as a sculptor and educator. Michael Lyons work is concerned with the sculptural object – from the hand held to monumental in scale; with exploration of form and space. Both his drawings and sculptures examine this concept with depth and his influences stem from aesthetic and formal concerns, spirituality and religion to his own cultural identity.
