Flora Parrot explores the complex histories, relationships, meanings and significances of a section of the North York Moors in her new installation, Dipole. The artwork, the result of a residency project between contemporary artist Parrott and Ryedale Folk Museum, analyses an area of remote moorland whilst also engaging with the museum and it’s collections. The residency is the second in a series of three exhibitions exploring contemporary sculpture in a rural context. The first in this series (July 2008) was Unit 5, a project funded by Arts Council England and Ryedale Folk Museum, in which a group of young curators selected pieces of contemporary sculpture from the Arts Council Collection which both reflected perceptions of youth culture and interrogated notions of ‘urban’ and ‘rural’.
