Balloons from France, Italian plastic shipping tags, fishing gear from The Netherlands, toys from the USA and even lobster pot tags from Canada have all found their way into Joanna’s intricate flotsam weaving.
Her work is documenting our throwaway society and questions the untold stories of these objects – Where did they come from? How did they end up in the sea? What was their intended use?
Tidal currents ignore nations, boundaries and cultures when delivering marine litter to new shores. Rather than foster a culture of blame, Joanna weaves with international objects, hinting at the need for a shared responsibility when dealing with the important environmental issue of marine litter.
