Fresh and Fruity is an art collective and brand based in Aotearoa/online. Founded in Ōtepoti as a physical space in 2014, it now exists entirely online and is run by Severine Costa, Hana Aoake and Mya Middleton. Fresh and Fruity’s work has been shown and published across Aotearoa, as well as in Australia, the United States and Germany. F&F maintain an artistic and writing practice, while also facilitating the projects of others. Their work explores capitalism by both mimicking and mocking the corporate spheres in which the art world operates. Thus calling attention to the intersection of race, class and gender through acknowledging lived experiences, as well as creating safe spaces for those excluded by the current art economies to show work and have critical dialogues.
The digital residencies provide an online space for artists to develop works, ideas and practices. Three residencies will take place online between February–April, with each selected artist having one month to complete a proposed project along the theme of: 3D film/ printing / scanning.
During the DAR residency Fresh and Fruity will speculate on URL and IRL space as fundamental environments for understanding contemporary culture. The work will focus on capitalism’s exploitation of the liquidation of boundaries between URL/IRL spaces and how marginalized identities utilize this collapse. F&F will be producing digital media works and branded 3D printed physical objects to be connected by QR codes and displayed online.
