Ebor Studio and Gallery welcome you to our first exhibition of 2018.
‘From Chaos’ is an exhibition of installation, sculpture, drawing and sound from artists Martha Lyons Haywood and Matthew Quick.
The works shown are composed of found and made objects taken from recent tests and experimentations in the artist’s practices. The two artists decided to collaborate in exhibition to add a further element of play to recent ideas: taking works from the chaotic and personal realm of the studio, to the open and public space of the gallery.
Martha has been a resident of Ebor for 4 years. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2013 in Sculpture and has shown and worked as an artist nationally and internationally. Last year she had her first solo show in The NumberShop Gallery, Edinburgh. She makes sculptures and visual poetry from found and made objects that are often site-specific. Her work is often surreal as she attempts to find the humour, romance and tragedy that develops a relationship between object, space and person.
Matthew is a new resident of Ebor Studios. He makes sound from found or made objects and instruments and uses his studio to collect, record and edit he sound to make music. He takes inspiration of sound from nature and his visual element, and techniques of making, from industrial materials such as metals and wood. Since joining Ebor Group, he has taken part in the latest Open Studio event, where his music played in his space for a public audience. The show will be the first time that his musical objects have been introduced to a gallery setting. His works welcome an audience participation.
The preview of ‘From Chaos’ is at 6pm-9pm on Friday 16th February 2018, in Ebor’s Gallery.
The exhibition will be open to drop in on Saturday 17th February from 10pm until 4pm.
