An exhibition to celebrate the showing of ‘A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things’ a documentary film by Mark Cousins about the Scottish artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham.
We are delighted to welcome Rebecca Mair Bell, Sarah Casey, Mary Elliott, Andrew Howe and Tessa Maiden whose extended practices illuminate how contemporary artists respond to a living landscape*.
‘However absorbed Barns-Graham is in the dialogue between her materials and her imagination, what goes on outside the window proves irresistible to the artist who is captivated by the beauty of the world…. In the creative process, the relationship between external and internal, observed and invented, is complex and multi-faceted: there are no rules of degree or proportion.’
Lynne Green W.Barns-Graham: A Studio Life
*a phrase in celebration of the ‘Living Mountain’ by Nan Shepherd spoken of by Mark Cousins in conversation with Wendy Mitchell at The Garden Cinema.
