The worldwide decline in bees is effecting all species of bee not just honeybees. In the UK alone there are more than 250 species. Bees are essential for the pollination of the plants that feed us. With support from the Princes Trust and UnLTD Millenium Awards, Carlo Montesanti and Jessie Jowers have recently set up The Global Bee Project as a “Not for Profit” organisation to tackle this global problem on a very local level. An empty shop in Stroud will be transformed into a magical and informative world of bees and plants. Jessie and Carlo will use the space to design and build bee houses, created for a non aggressive variety of bee, Osmia Rufa. These bees can be looked after by anyone without the complications of disease, expensive equipment or the fear of being stung. These bees are incredible pollinators, a single bee pollinates the equivalent to 120 honeybees.
