‘They do say there is a witch in it and if you let ‘un out there’ll be a peck o’ trouble’ Margaret Alice Murray.

The exhibition title comes from a remark made by Margaret Alice Murray, who discovered a small, silvered glass phial purported to contain a mischievous witch. Found around 1915, not far from the Regency Town House in Hove, this witch in a bottle, as it is commonly termed, is now housed in Oxford’s Pitt Rivers Museum.

Set within the drawing rooms of the historic Grade 1 listed Regency Town House, Suzanne O’Haire is pleased to present a new series of work titled beyond belief. Thirty-four acrobatically stacked, bundled or tentatively balanced compositions perform as supposed magical sigils or spells for this solo exhibition.

Suzanne has invited Blue Monkey Network to a special viewing of her exhibition in this unique setting. The evening will offer an opportunity to meet Suzanne and hear more about the work as well as joining with other artists for a sociable evening of art and chat.

London born, and now Brighton based, O’Haire has held a studio-based practice spanning 25 years, during which time she has shown an unfaltering fixation for collecting defunct objects and reimagining this discarded matter into small sculptural assemblages. Recent exhibitions include, Be Right Back: Rhoda Street Studios, London; In Nothing Flat: Old Granada Studios, Manchester; Exeter Contemporary Open, selected by Kristian Day (independent curator) and Alys Williams (Founding Director of VITRINE): Exeter Phoenix (2017), Then Me: John Marchant Gallery in association with Galerie Simpson, Swansea and Eagle Gallery and Emma Hill London; Europa: Transition Gallery (2016), and Creekside Open, selected by Richard Deacon: A.P.T Gallery, London (2015).
