Harry Hammond (1920 – 2009) was the first great photographer of British Rock ‘n’ Roll. As lead photographer for the New Musical Express (NME) from its relaunch in 1952 until the early 1960s, Hammond took some of the most famous images of the era and set the standard of pop photography for future generations. This exhibition features over 100 of Hammond’s prints from the V&A collections including many of his most famous photographs of leading artists such as Cliff Richard, Shirley Bassey, Buddy Holly and the Beatles. These iconic images capture the emergence of British Rock and provide an insight into the wider music industry.
