Hidden Landscapes is a solo exhibition of new work by artist Christina Bryant. Hidden Landscapes is an Arts Council funded research and development project, which is also supported by a community grant from Letchworth GC Heritage Foundation.

Over the duration of twelve months Christina explored chosen sites located along the urban fringes of Letchworth Garden City. Christina’s interest is in the spaces that straddle the urban and the country, the ‘wilderness’ that lies just beyond the codes and surveillance of the town. Her focus was on areas showing evidence of current or recent human occupation, recording, mapping and surveying the rubbish and debris from the selected locations. Christina used the painstaking methods of an archaeologist to help explore what links us with our everyday landscape. This was done with help from Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews, the North Herts District Council Archaeology Officer.

Her exhibition will be a fascinating blend of drawings, maps and finds from the various sites which will be very familiar to residents of Letchworth including: Norton Common and the old quarry on Wilbury Hills. Along with the exhibition Christina will be carrying out a live ‘excavation’ at one of her sites and giving a talk discussing the project and it’s findings (see website for details or email Christina at [email protected]).
