• Influenced directly by Frida Kahlo, Katrina Atkinson has had a long established passion for the emotional and technical aspects of Kahlo’s work, as well as her use of colour and vibrancy which is commonly expressed within the artwork of this unique 20th Century female Mexican artist. • Katrina’s latest collection of ‘Functional Art’ inspired by Kahlo, includes interior and exterior; wall hangings, rugs, cushions and chairs etc. combining women’s traditional crafts – rag-rugging, crochet and embroidery, together with fine art – painting and collage, creating a body of ‘useable’ contemporary art. • This exhibition will be held over the period of ‘The DAY of the DEAD’ usually celebrated over three nights at the end of October, which is one of Mexico’s religious traditions, with skulls, skeletons and marigolds frequently represented in Kahlo’s work. • Music, food and drink in true Mexican style will be served during the reception, with rhythm provided by the locally based Cuban Salsa band: K’CHEVERE
