HOTELITO SAN RAFAEL KARLHEINZ ESSL, MANFRED GRUEBL, ANNA JERMOLAEWA, MARTIN KIPPENBERGER, RASHIM, GERWALD ROCKENSCHAUB, PETER WEIBEL, CD/DVD EDITION KW.I, MAGAZINE VERSION 1 OPENING: 17TH OCTOBER 2008 / 6.00 – 9:30PM The Hotelito San Rafael is a Hotel in the center of Mexico City. As a concept it functions in a similar way to the celebrated 'Chelsea Hotel' in New York. So the Hotelito is a magnet for artists, musicians and thinkers, functioning as a forum with ideas spun across the table, in a dinning room specifically designed for conversation. Such a place stimulates dialogue, a dialogue between artist, musician and scientist. At the base of this dialogue or conversation is the audibility characterised by language. So the idea is to bring together artists who use sound to create a there own language, both visual and audible, therefore simply recreating the kind of dialogue or conversation to be found at the Hotelito San Rafael. In planning this exhibition we wanted to show the different artistic positions used by artists to illustrate the use of sound in a variety of fields. The participating artists come from various practices including conceptual, minimal and performance.
