In Physical Reality is a new solo exhibition by Liz West, who has taken over the museum’s Main Hall and Kaapo Gallery from October 2020 until March 2021, filling the spaces with works of art that invite visitors to explore and offer the body and mind colour therapy during the dark winter months. West’s site-specific installations, which often use reflections and synthetic materials, explore colour as a psychological and physical phenomenon. Light also plays a specific role in West’s art – without light, colours are not visible. Her works use the interplay between light and colour to generate holistic, multisensory experiences. The exhibition is curated by Laura Köönikkä.
“I am delighted to have been invited to present a solo exhibition In Physical Reality at Hyvinkää Art Museum, my first exhibition in Finland. I will be showing new work A Familiar Variant, made specially for this presentation as well as reworking Iri-Descent in a site specific context (originally commissioned by London Design Festival and Fortnum & Mason’s in 2019).”
This exhibition at Hyvinkää Art Museum is West’s first exhibition in Finland.
