An exhibition as part of Black History Month. http://www.black-history-month.co.uk/. Inspired by the American fugitive, Henry Box Brown, and his 1851 journey from Bradford to Leeds in a box (itself a re-enactment of his escape from enslavement). The artist Simeon Wayne Barclay’s installation, investigates the complex negotiations that are tantamount to our social existance beyond the mask of conformity. On the 30th of October Simeon will recreate the journey made by Henry Box Brown. After being incarcerated in the box, he will be transported from Bradford Central Library to be unveiled at Leeds City Museum.Simeon Wayne Barclay is currently a final year undergraduate, at Leeds Metropolitan University.
