Artists James Aldridge and Jonathan Mansfield will host an informal discussion in conjunction with their exhibition, Interbeing, at The Pound Arts Centre, Corsham, Wiltshire, from 6 to 7.30 pm.
What does Interbeing mean to both artists? How as artists, do they connect to the ‘more than human’ world? How can artists help to build a more connected and understanding society?
The talk will be followed by a screening of ‘An Ecology of Mind’ – a daughter’s portrait of Gregory Bateson: celebrated anthropologist, philosopher, author, naturalist, systems theorist, and filmmaker.
Nora Bateson’s rediscovery of her father’s work documents the vast – and continuing – influence Bateson’s thinking has had on the work of an amazingly wide range of disciplines. Through contemporary interviews, along with his own words, Bateson’s way of thinking reveals practical approaches to the enormous challenges confronting the human race and the natural world.
This film hopes to inspire its audience to see our lives within a larger system – glistening with symmetry, play, and metaphor. An invitation to ask the kinds of questions that could help thread the world back together from the inside.
Artists Talk: Wednesday 22 January, 6.00pm, followed by a screening of ‘An Ecology of Mind’ – a filmic portrait of Gregory Bateson, anthropologist, biologist and psychotherapist (£5 entry covers both the talk and the film).
