Join us at Worthing Museum and Gallery on Saturday 19 August 2023, 2pm –4pm for an exhibition tour and dance performance at the immersive installation Interweaving Spaces.
Interweaving Spaces by award-winning artist Dr Gil Mualem-Doron is a large-scale immersive installation that explores bio-diversity and cultural diversity.
The installation, originally commissioned by the Sussex Wildlife Trust, simulates an underwater kelp forest. More than one hundred bespoke textile strips will be suspended in the eight-meter-high gallery, complemented by underwater and dance films, photography, sound and special lighting. The dance performance – Code Red! Code Red! – a collaboration with the celebrated dancer Lya Abdu Issa (aka BlkDimond) will take place in the installation 2:30 pm—3:20 pm
The dance is based on the experience of diving in kelp forests, with the soundtrack featuring the seminal speech by Barbados prime minister Mia Mottely at COP26 transformed into spoken word poetry and sounds from Extinction Rebellion demonstrations. The visitors will be invited for a short rave at the show’s end. Prepare yourself for an unforgettable experience.
