To maintain the delicate balance between order and disorder which is characteristic of a garden such as Harlow Carr, Harrogate, invasive species, both animal and vegetable, must be kept in check. In some ways, introducing sculptural objects into a naturalistic environment might also be intrusive or invasive.
As a group of individual artists with diverse approaches to making sculpture, the Yorkshire Sculptors Group will tackle the challenge of exhibiting within the landscaped gardens in our own personal ways. In thinking about our work, however, we will all be considering the ways in which our manmade interventions have the potential to enhance, or to disrupt the balance of this beautiful semi-natural environment.
Artists: Garry Barker, Sally Barker, Paula Chambers, Liadin Cooke, Victoria Ferrand Scott, Carole Griffiths, George Hainsworth, Lucy Hainsworth, Joanne Hall, Terence Hammill, Vincent James, Lewis Robinson, Linda Thompson, Nicholas Vaughan, Melanie Wilks.
