Scale of movements is a specially created video work for Mission Gallery celebrating urban movements. Pigeons pecking, store signs tapping, cars hurtling, bins rattling, clothes flapping, leaves rustling: cities are in a state of perpetual motion. Inside our homes we mirror these movements: swirling teaspoons, crunching teeth, padding footsteps. Even in the dead of night nothing is still, a plastic bag rustles and an eyelid flickers. Through an extensive collected archive of motion within our cities, Gressel has choreographed the mundane, often overlooked everyday movements, inviting the viewer to reflect on their urban landscape.
Isabelle Gressel is a French/ Austrian artist based in the UK. Her work focuses on creating playful video, sound and installation pieces based on individualised and collective rhythms in urban landscapes.
