‘It’s gonna work out fine.’, is a solo-project by Lisa Slominski. As Curator of the artist-run gallery since the fall of 2010, Slominski approaches her curatorial and artistic practices with an instinctive use of interiors. The artist systematically fragments representations of physical, cyber and sacred space, conflating these newly disjointed arenas with her personal queries into the comforting nature of anthropomorphisation. Slominski’s focal work in the exhibition ‘Pookie’ is an installation comprised of over 100 laser-cut Perspex symbols positioned from floor to ceiling and implements the artist’s ongoing exploration of pattern techniques. Slominski’s motivations are suggestive of interior design techniques for domestic, commercial and religious spaces: she evokes recognition of the viewer’s experiences, her mitigations then disrupt the familiarity. By shifting the context and scale of ready-made materials she attempts to simulate an innovative sense of spatial solace, simultaneously for herself and the audience. Lisa Slominski (b. 1981) is an American artist living and working in London. She received her BA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2003) and her MFA in Art Practice from Goldsmiths, University of London (2008). Slominski has shown internationally including exhibitions in England, Scotland, the United States and South Africa. Forthcoming in 2011, she has a solo-show with Dimensions Variable, Miami with support from the Fountainhead Residency.
