Jim Howieson’s work deals with the modification and re-configuration of commonplace structures and objects. Predominantly these activities take place out in the world; in public spaces such as galleries, showrooms and leisure centres. Howieson’s physical actions and playful responses to these differing environments act as a starting point for a series of comedic visual and physical dramas between people and things to unfold. Jim Howieson’s One Man Show sees Howieson focussing on his recent work in a cabinet maker’s workshop and his concurrent, unsuccessful attempts at aligning his practice with a conventional artist studio model. In celebration of this recent activity, Howieson has constructed a single sculptural monument using his now superfluous studio furniture as material. This monument will be supported by a bespoke, revolving plinth which will allow the viewer to alter its orientation and affect.
