Five Hertfordshire Fine Artists have been exploring meanings surrounding the idea of “Identity” for an exhibition at Hertford’s Courtyard Arts Gallery. The group has found this a challenging theme that not only stretches the imagination but has also been rewarding in the wide variety of artworks created from a process of experimentation and pushing boundaries. This exciting exhibition covers a variety of artistic expression in different media in both two- and three-dimensions. “Identity”……..what does it mean; how do we identify and understand ourselves and others? Is it how we look, how we behave, or when and where we came from? There may be surprises in store for all of us if we can begin to think how we recognise and define ourselves, each other and our place in the world. These five artists have begun from a time of emerging awareness of their unique individual identity; from when they were young children – where did it go from here? Come along and look – you too will have an opportunity to contribute your own ideas! The title of the show is “Life is just a box of chocolates” – the artwork reflecting “a delicious assortment, individual yet perfect for sharing”. Exhibiting artists are Julie Cooper, Susan James Dean, Barbara Jepps, Terry Sadler and Julie Scarr.
