Luke Frost is the sixth artist to emerge from the current Tate St Ives Artist Residency at Porthmeor Studios, St Ives. An abstract painter, his works explore the pictorial possibilities of colour. Built up in layers to a refined, smooth surface, these strictly formal arrangements pose the saturation, rhythm, balance and contracts of colour against architectural space. With texts by Tony Godfrey, art historian and Head of Research at Sothebys Institute and Matthew Collings, writer and critic, the catalogue explores Frost’s particular approach to abstract painting and captures his progression following a year in Porthmeor Studios. The Artist Residency has been generously supported by Tate St Ives Members, Tate Members and Arts Council, South West.
