‘Through questioning beauty and the methods of how it can be attained, MJ Bouchier’s work provocatively explores the relationships between a woman’s body image and the quest for an idealised female form. It is the curious nature of the subjects targeted within the work that provokes MJ Bouchier to create hybrids of contemporary and historical ideals. MJ Bouchier’s current practice focuses on portraying contemporary idealistic values based upon body image, the notions of beauty that women feel pressure to conform to and the genetic predisposition some have regarding self image. The realisation of what is an ideal of physical beauty forces one to question whether such ideals can actually be attained.’
