Making Matters, Making Places: A Somerset Art Works Seminar is community engagement? Why would we want to do it? How do we do it?Growing from our experience as part of the cross-sector Company of Voices intergenerational project, SAW has invited national speakers to explore and discuss the role of arts practice in community engagement work. Langport Town Centre is the backdrop for the seminar. Please join us for this open minded, inquisitive day to hear of both commissioners’ and artists’ experiences of working with people and places.Participate, discuss and respond, we will directly engage with the surrounding ‘place’ in order to question, contemplate and navigate ways of ‘place-making’ with people and communities across experience and age range. This seminar is relevant for: project workers, artists, the voluntary sector, commissioners. This seminar offers a mix of keynote presentations, breakouts, activities and open forum discussion. It is of relevance to those working in regeneration, community and arts services as well as those in the cultural and creative sectors.Key Note Speakers:Patrick Hanfling – Intergenerational practice and place-makingBeth Johnson – Foundation and Manchester City CouncilKim WidePlus artists presentations from: Richard Tomlinson, Simon Lee Dicker and Sue Palmer and others to be Funded by Local Action for Rural Communities.
