Manchester Artists’ Bonfire is an annual art incineration event. All Manchester artists will join together at Islington Mill for an evening of art burning. In the absence of our art we will rethink our relationships to it and to each other at a time when the country is re evaluating art in economic terms. Every artist based in Manchester and those beyond who wish to engage with the Manchester artist led scene are invited to submit a 250 pledge in order to take part. Pledges can be related to thoughts, feelings, responses about and reactions to the act of a mass art burn. Artists must nominate a piece of their own work to be added to the fire. Details of how to submit work to the fire can be found at http://manchesterartistsbonfire.blogspot.com/p/sub… The deadline for pledges is 26 Jan 2011. The pledges collected from Manchester artists will frame the event and provide the context in which we burn the art. We join in a festival of flux and celebrate it on our own terms. This defiant symbol of dissatisfaction will act as a catalyst for change. The Artists’ Bonfire is unapologetic about the more obvious connotations such as; strike, destruction and renewal but is also open to new interpretations, be they political or personal or both.
