WEST GREENWICH LIBRARY IS A BUILDING OF SOME NOTE, BY THE ARCHITECT SIR ALFRED BRUMWELL THOMAS, KNOWN FOR BUILDINGS IN THE BAROQUE REVIVAL STYLE. IT HAS MANY BEAUTIFUL ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES, AMONG WHICH IS A TALLER CENTRE SECTION WHICH SUPPORTS A HIGH OPEN CUPOLA WITH A LEAD DOME, 8 TUSCAN COLUMNS AND A SQUARE PODIUM. IT HAS AN OVAL PLAGUE ON THE FRONT WHICH READS: “THE GIFT OF ANDREW CARNEGIE ESQ.” AMONG CARNEGIE’S MANY PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS, THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PUBLIC LIBRARIES THROUGHOUT THE US, CANADA, BRITAIN AND OTHER ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES WAS EXPECIALLY PROMINENT.
