Notes to editors: MARKETPLACE is a group show looking at artists whose fascination with IKEA has spilled into their work. The pervasive force of this global company is far reaching in the West, from hanging ‘Lack’ Shelves to the compulsory purchase of tea lights, it seems that IKEA, as a shopping experience, is now a phenomena of 21st century living. Artists include: Sam Curtis (London/Hereford) Guy Ben-Ner (New York) Helmit Smits (Amsterdam) Jacob Dahlgren (Stockholm) Craig Barnes (Hereford) Ned James (Worcester) Andrew Sunderland (London) Miles Thurlow (Gateshead) MARKETPLACE is the first group presentation at Division of Labour; a new non-profit commercial gallery selling critically engaged contemporary artwork. Nathaniel Pitt is the curator and director of Division of Labour, he has recently been selected for an international programme for new curators and gallerists with De Appel and will be taking part in Liste 18 in June 2013.
