Courtyard Arts is delighted to be hosting this retrospective exhibition of the painting and sculpture of local artist, Mary Bourne who died in 2009. Mary studied Fine Art as a mature student at the University of Hertfordshire and drew on her earlier career as a midwife in creating her sensitive mother and child compositions as well as a variety of other subjects. She worked in paint, ceramic, plaster and bronze, and pieces in all these mediums are on display and for sale in this exhibition. Mary came to poetry later than to visual arts. She published with Rockingham Press two books of verse: Nine Lovers and Counting and Nine Lives and Counting. There is an appreciation of Mary’s poetry in the May 2010 edition of Acumen, a poetry journal, and another is due in November in Artemispoetry, At the private views at Courtyard Arts, there will be a series of short readings from Mary’s books of verse. The exhibition is being organised by friends of the artist, Annie Leach, Jacki Stainsby, Frances Wilson and Elizabeth Waugh.
