This body of work began with a question: ‘what canI learn about myself form being alongside others who are living with a diagnosis of dementia?
I spent a year as artist in residence in an EMI Care home, 5 years alongside my friend and neighbour in the last stages of Alzeimher’s, worked with scientists at Division of Neuroscience and Experimental Psychology, University of Manchester, and at Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre and had my brain scanned at University College London.
My researches offer an answer to the initial question, confirming the value of play and improvisation, reminding me of the creative energy embodied in our individual differences and a realisation of the enduring nature of identity . Matter of identity is a celebration of what it is to be human.
The Museum is temporarily closed at the beginning of September but reopens with a specially commissioned performance by Brecon Community Choir , Alive & Kickin on 14th September
