Nothing is really ordinary, not if you look harder. It might be the glint of a fleeting golden reflection that passes as soon as you’ve noticed it, it might be scratches on a wall that hint at mysterious happenings or it might be footprints in the sand, ending beyond the waterline.
Maxy Bianco and Narbi Price, both Hartlepool born, are a film maker and a painter who share a fascination with stories half-heard, and histories still to be written, the kind of thing that is deeply part of where we are, who we are.
The everyday might happen every day, but nothing is really ordinary, not if you look harder.
Maxy and Narbi will discuss their work to date informally, showing examples of previous work and future plans. They will explore how common interests can be processed through different media.
Narbi Price is the Journal Culture Awards Visual Artist of the Year 2018, and the winner of the Contemporary British Painting Prize 2017. He was featured in Phaidon’s Vitamin P3 – New Perspectives in Painting and was a prizewinner in the John Moores Painting Prize 2012.
He is currently completing his PhD at Newcastle University in partnership with Woodhorn Museum.
Maxy Bianco was shortlisted for Best Short Film Documentary at the New Filmmakers Los Angeles Best of Award 2016. He has been commissioned by Channel 4 and BBC Radio 4 and also had his work ‘Stranger on The Shore’ screen at the BFI Southbank. Maxy often works with long time friend, writer and filmmaker Michael Smith.
