Marc Atkins • Colin Booth • Karen Henderson Brian McCann ARBS • Margaret Proudfoot Demonstrating diversity of approaches in contemporary sculpture, the new 2011 public series of exhibitions and public discussions explores three distinct themes – Metropolis, Metamorphosis and Measure. Thirteen artists in total have been selected by application, five artists feature in the Metropolis exhibition, four artists in Metamorphosis and four in Measure. The first in this series is Metropolis. Five artists present a diversity of practice in sculpture that reflects a contemporary exploration of traditional materials and new technology as a means to examine our changing environment. The works are informed by the way we see and experience the urban environment as cosmopolitan and evolving; a place driven by information, where interaction and exchange are threaded into the fabric of society.
