Nicola Dowdle’s working practice and sculptural interventions are fuelled by an intrigue in architectural spaces and how we experience them. Working site-responsively, Nicola attempts to create a dialogue between line, surface and space, investigating the language of materials in order to create a sculptural form.
Through the potential of line the artist seeks to transform architectural spaces into contemplative, tangible environments engaging with the physical feel and texture of a space. This negotiation allows the artist to explore the lasting narratives offered by a building’s history and how they have the ability to hold such resonance.
The intrinsic visual language that emerges from the direct association with architecture and the correlation between line and space is central to Nicola’s practice.
