Introducing an exhibition of new paintings by five London based artists: Alex Virji, Archie Franks, Dominic North, Flora Bradwell and Nicholas McLeod, curated by Lily Hall. One Year On sees the work of five emerging painters drawn together in a temporary exhibition space, investigating the medium of paint and offering insights into the creative process behind the works through a series of artists’ residencies.Although rooted in very different approaches to their practice, each artist harbours an intense visceral appreciation of their chosen medium. Their work thrives on the dark undertones that linger beneath surfaces, with a unifying strangeness that is heightened by the unconventional setting of the show. The disused space creates a perfect backdrop for the works, foregrounding their individual explorations of a dichotomy between the familiar and a sense of isolation.A selection of the artists involved will be taking part in residencies within the space, setting up temporary studios on-site. This approach to showcasing new work aims to offer a rare insight into the creative process, as well as to capture the imagination of those visiting the show and members of the public passing by.
