You are invited to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions at Autograph’s gallery in Hackney: the first exhibition of Ernest Cole’s photographs documenting New York City during the height of the civil rights movement in America, and C. Rose Smith’s work confronting the histories of violence and wealth on cotton plantations in the Southern United States.

Find out more and book free tickets on Autograph’s website

C. Rose Smith: Talking Back to Power
C. Rose Smith critically questions power and authority, centring her body at historical sites marked by wealth and violence in the American South. She demands visibility, while reflecting upon the black body as a former commodity. Curated by Bindi Vora.

Ernest Cole: A Lens in Exile
The first exhibition of Ernest Cole’s photographs documenting New York City during the height of the civil rights movement in America – capturing the vibrant expression of blackness and community during this time. Curated by Mark Sealy.

Everyone is welcome to Autograph’s exhibition openings. Both galleries will be open, plus drinks and an outdoor seating area. This is an informal event, you can arrive and leave at any time. During busy times, there may be a short queue to enter the building or galleries.
