Sarah Lees is a graduate of Carmarthen School of Art, University of Wales, Trinity Saint David, with a Distinction in Fine Art. Formally a graphic designer, Lees is now combining an artistic career with teaching.

Lees early work concentrated on technique and the materiality of the paint. As her practice developed realist elements subsided to a freer, more intuitive desire that moved directly to abstraction. Lees continues to develop her own visual language and experiment with both paint and surfaces.

In Oriel Fach, local artist, Sian Jones, presents work that include works on paper, mixed media and painting.

Sarah Lees work in the main gallery contrast’s directly with Jones’. Where Lees work is colourful and abundant, Sian Jones’ work is muted and earthy. Taking inspiration from the landscape, Jones draws on the seasonal variations of the countryside. Her work is also conscious of the heritage and man-made impact on the land. The body of work is a recording of the relationship between man and the landscape, sometimes with a sadness that reveals a sense of loss, but, also as an attachment and sense of belonging.

Finally, Wales-based artist, Michael Freeman, shows his paintings – abstracted interpretation’s of ‘The Stations of the Cross’.

The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10.00am until 5.00pm. Free admission. For further information please contact Lynne Crompton on tel. 01834 869 454 or visit the gallery website.
