‘Our Fading Heritage’ is a collaborative exhibition that explores the beauty and captivating qualities of derelict buildings, celebrating our industrial and built heritage while bringing attention to its deterioration and loss. The exhibition includes a diverse range of artwork, such as drawings, paintings, and original prints. Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to see new works featuring the iconic St David’s Cathedral building itself.
Opening Event and Talk
The official opening of the exhibition will take place on Saturday August 3, 2024, from 2:00 PM. The opening event will feature an illustrated talk by the distinguished Dr. Peter Wakelin, who will provide a broader context for the exhibition’s theme. About the Artists
Andy Faulkner
Andy Faulkner’s work explores his fascination with the landscape of Wales and its historic buildings, especially those that are derelict or in decline. His drawings and paintings capture the transformation of these structures as they deteriorate and nature reclaims them, reflecting on humanity’s broader relationship with the natural world. As a historic buildings architect and former scholar of the Society for the Protection of Historic Buildings (SPAM), Andy combines his professional expertise with his artistic practice. He also teaches sketching and perspective drawing and enjoys engaging in collaborations with other artists.
Jemma Gunning
Jemma Gunning is an award-winning printmaker based in Bristol known for her intricate and evocative works that often focus on themes of decay and abandonment. Her detailed prints capture the essence of derelict buildings, inviting viewers to contemplate the history and stories embedded in these forgotten structures. Jemma is an elected member of the Royal Society of Painter printmakers (RE) and is a Royal West of England Academician (RWA). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, earning her a reputation as a significant voice in contemporary printmaking.
