Spurred by the endless quest to attain utopian Shambhala, Paradise Stories seeks to unlock modern day paradise through transformation of two gallery spaces. Located in appointed Capital of Culture Liverpool, Paradise Stories responds to rapid economic progress, attempting to make sense of living since our supposed fall.Yung’s own interdisciplinary paradise grows within polished architecture/design space; RENEW Rooms, whilst in The International Gallery she orchestrate works of eight artists instigating their own utopian investigations. RENEW Rooms: A video installation created by Kai-Oi Jay Yung Yung focuses upon stories from Liverpool’s inhabitants across boroughs, backgrounds, ages, occupations and ethnicities. Eight video pieces include movement hypnotic ‘Wildflower’ and choreographed construction worker in ‘Rain’, to an immersive meeting with an ‘Ordained’ monk. The videos cross sculpture and performance; together voicing modern day vices, loss, aspirations and solidarity. International Gallery: Kai-Oi Jay Yung orchestrates Paradise StoriesInviting interpretations of paradise from across our continents, works include Pok’s audience interactive Shadow Tracing event, instrumental movement triggered installation “The Note C’ and the dreamlike alienation worlds of Maslen and Mehra’s photographed light sculptures.
