The exhibition in the Main Gallery at The Crocus Gallery will be Greek American painter Helen Moulinos’ first solo show. Combining many key pieces from her career to date, including the celebrated Make you understand (2009) and Life less fulfilled (2009), Passive Aggression reflects Moulinos’ exploration into the effects of modern life on our consciousness.Moulinos’ practice plays with ideas of Urban Alienation, becoming withdrawn from today’s urban world. Many people are now raised in large, developed urban centres with access to limitless possibilities; however, this can lead to confusion and feelings of inadequacy due to the continual invasion of the media, the speed of technological advancement, material consumption, the redefinition of social conventions and the current trend for lack of meaningful connection with others. She questions if taking a pause and having fewer choices to make could relieve these feelings of isolation.Moulinos has exhibited in many group exhibitions internationally, including shows in London, Berlin and Athens. Helen Moulinos: Passive Aggression at The Crocus Gallery is a retrospective of work from the last 3 years and has been co-curated by Kat Mickleson and Kay Richards.
