From machine vision to pogoing robots – gain experience of digital live art, installation and performance, by combining camera, video and sound technology; reactive, interactive and inter-additive scenarios; programming and software construction to create immersive environments, culminating in a dynamic performance.Computers are dumb machines directed only by human intelligence and applied rule construction. How can such a thing become a ‘live’ improvisational partner? This course explores this question by combining an exciting mixture of hands-on experience, history and theory, individual experimentation and expression, collaboration and improvisation.Create and contribute to a melting pot of ideas, images, sounds and algorithms, utilise image detection and attribution, gestural interfaces, the logical structures of machine code, dialogue and decision making, to produce a innovative group performance / installation. No programming or performance experience is necessary but an enthusiasm and willingness to share ideas and reflect on them is."By using programming it’s as if you learn how to become an author, how to ‘write the book’, not just design the cover."Jack Bates, former student." [ The audience ] needs to invade the stage and transform the images which are shown there."Augusto Boal, director, writer.10 week course, Wednesdays 7-9 pm beginning 24th September, concluding 10th December.
