Perfume as Practice SS19 is an exhibition that blends fragrance, portraiture and astronomy and seeks to reveal the potential perfume has as a contemporary art discipline. The exhibition will house 10 perfumes, each a portrait of another artist. These perfumes are achieved through an established process that begins by asking artists the question ‘why do you make art?’ then responding to the answer received though scent design. Perfume as Practice SS19 will also be themed under the idea of ‘astronomy’. This theme establishes visual connections between artists, and each perfume bottle will be adorned with a constellation.
The Private View will enable you to encounter and experience each perfume for yourself, and I will be on hand throughout the evening to talk to. I will also deliver an artist’s talk at the private view, which will reveal some of the aims, thoughts and processes involved in creating a Perfume as Practice exhibition. There will also be refreshments available throughout the evening.
I hope you find my conceptual approach to perfumery intriguing and it would be great to see you at the exhibition. If you can’t make it to the private view, the exhibition is also open between 4th-7th April from 12-6pm each day. Entry to the exhibition, including the private view, is free. And do feel free to invite and bring who you like along with you.
I really hope to see you on 4th April, or at some point during the show!
