Resulting from collaboration with a polymer chemist, Ruth McLees’ new paintings break free of the flat picture plane and into 3 dimensions. The works in this exhibition are a cross section of all the experimentation Ruth undertook during this Arts Council funded project. Industrial resins are poured, mixed and scooped to become painting materials, conveying the image as well as describing the 3D form and tactile qualities of the figures represented. The exhibition shows a range of the results achieved with various different products (e.g. resin glues more commonly used to stick spoilers onto cars and resins designed for use fixing buoys at sea and North Sea oil rigs).
