Helen Snell A Strange Harvest Galleries 2 & 3 An exhibition of 3D constructions, some life size, taking over the gallery space, portraying pop up transgenic creatures, hybrids and clones. The inspiration for this? installation is drawn from the artist’s ongoing interest in the ethical debate concerning biotechnology. These works combine mass-produced reproductions with unique pieces that explore the paradoxical relationship between group identity and individuality, the original and the copy. Peter Pretsell A Life in Print Gallery 1 A celebration of the works of painter printmaker Peter Pretsell, including screenprints and paintings created over a 20 year period. Pretsell was an innovative artist, a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, where he was a contemporary of John Bellany & Sandy Moffat, amongst others. Surreal humour underpinned his acute observation of human life and mores, giving his work an inventive and playful edge, Pretsell’s images were unique and always existed well outside the mainstream of Scottish Art. This exhibition is presented concurrently with an exhibition of paintings by Peter Pretsell at the Sculpture Court Balcony, EdinburghCollege of Art, Lauriston Place, from 18 September to 25 October 2008, www.eca.ac.uk.
