Later this week, in my capacity as curator and creative driver of the Profanity Embroidery Group, I’ll be travelling to Bath with a car full of Profanity Embroidery heading for the Fringe Arts Bath festival.
The PEG-Whitstable PILLOWTALK exhibition was originally created in collaboration with the Power of Women festival in Thanet, and I’m delighted that we have had the opportunity to grow the Open Call still further. We now have over 100 profanely embroidered pillowcases illustrated on the theme of REST. And judging from the majority of the work we received, no one is getting enough!
Ah – say you, “but you have stitched that you sleep like a log”
Well, it doesn’t mean what you think it does. Witches used to put a log in their bed whilst they went out on the tiles, so that if any Witchfinder General poked their beaky nose in, it would appear that all was well…. so the following day the witches could say, with a wink “I slept like a log”. At least, that is what someone told me, and I like the tale, so am sticking with it.
If you are in Bath from 24th May to 8th June, there is so much happening – but make sure you don’t miss our naughty corner of the Newark Works.
