Preston's Victorian Covered Market will host a free film screening of The Preston Market Mystery Project, an artwork made especially for the city by the artist, John Newling. The Preston Market Mystery Project began in November 2006 when Newling hired a stall in the Covered Market and, over three days, collected mysteries from 280 shoppers. These mysteries, which range from lost jam sandwiches to UFO sightings, were read aloud by the artist during a twilight performance in the markets in March 2007. Finally, 30 people who submitted some of the most intriguing mysteries were invited to a three course meal in the Covered Markets last June.To conclude the project, Newling has produced a limited-edition book which documents each event and lists all 280 mysteries. To celebrate the launch of this unique publication, it will be available to purchase at the event at a special reduced price. If you are unable to attend the event, but are interested in purchasing the book (£30 incl p&p), please e-mail [email protected] Preston Market Mystery Project was commissioned by Preston's public art initiative, In Certain Places.
