Lauderdale House is proud to present ?PRIDE IN THE HOUSE 2009?, an exhibition that celebrates the talent of gay and lesbian artists. Pride in The House grew out of the first Mardi Gras Arts Festival in 2002. Now in its seventh year, we are delighted to be able to further its legacy and hope to repeat its success. This year, we have selected three artists to showcase their art and idea?s. One of our featured artists, Cos Ahmet, describes his work as a series of dialogues, each one standing as its own ?vehicle of communication?, expressing various narratives that delve into themes of sexuality & identity, with the ?SELF? at the core of his works. He considers the human body a complex apparatus, imbued with layers, gestures and fragments of meaning and associations forming ?physical collages? taking their cue from his collection of abstract, ethereal body imagery that appear in his work in several guises, presenting a new face or mannerism worn on something or someone familiar. Judges of Pride in The House will award one artist the opportunity of a Solo exhibition later in the year at Lauderdale House.
