Polly Cruse has created two new photographic images in poster format specifically to be displayed, one in each window of the vacant shop at 204 Gloucester Road. Her images one of a brass cat flying on a magic carpet and the other of ornamental ducks enjoying a fantasy swim are unlike other posters displayed in public spaces, in that they did not seek to promote or manipulate for commercial gain or attempt to provide any public information. The intention of her images was to distract the passers-by, capturing their imagination and offering an opportunity to escape from everyday preoccupations through fantasy and daydream. Polly Cruse is an artist living and working in Norwich. Her work articulates the relief felt when escaping from the banality of everyday life through fantasy and daydream. This involves re-constructing and re-contextualising every day items that exemplify people’s need for creativity and individuality. The constructions are photographed in the landscape with the intention of capturing moments of dreamt freedom whilst using humour to communicate with the viewer and to engage with their imagination. Her assemblages and photographs have previously been exhibited in commercial galleries and other public venues. Presenting images in a largescale poster format is a new departure for her practice and Windows 204 has provided an ideal opportunity to present her work in this way.
