Robert Pratt takes as his starting point utilitarian objects that reveal aspects of human nature through our response to and negotiation of the world around us. In this series of works Pratt explores the notion of creation as an afterthought. ‘Evidence of the afterthought can be seen throughout the material world as the human becomes the inventor, solving problems almost unconsciously, easing the flow of existence and bridging gaps in transient stages; creating space, making walkways, applying just the right amount of pressure, oiling the parts, stacking the pieces, cleaning the windows and saving time’.
