Richard Taylors work brings a fresh contemporary twist to an otherwise traditional process of landscape painting. The first departure comes with an initial gestural approach to mark-making, which, through a considered eye, captures the immediacy and urgency of a glance across the hussle and bussle of Portebello’s busy market place. These visual and auditory experiences find their way onto the canvas and make themselves known through splashes of vibrancy and a lyrical, ‘synaestheisiastic’ handling of paint, which results in a finished painting that brings together a myriad of experiences into one, captivating, semi-abstract space.
