Please come along to the official launch tomorrow, Thursday 5th November 5-8pm for a glass of wine. Ruth’s work grows from a constant search for glimpses of beauty amongst the everyday. She is fascinated by the beauty and pattern of human form, of facial expression, light and shadow and of the adornments we choose to surround and decorate our bodies. Clothes, furnishings, fabrics and patterns provide unique clues as to the identity and personality of their owner; they are the fabric of life. This exhibition grew from faces seen in and around Cardiff on streets, in shops and bars and on advertising billboards. Highly experimental, employing resins and varnishes as well as paint, these works include portraits painted upon fabric chosen by Ruth’s subjects; sometimes an old item of clothing such as a wedding dress imbued with deep emotional significance and memory, or a furnishing fabric remnant left over from the decoration of a new home. By using fabrics with a past life within her work Ruth desires to capture a depth of substance and facets of character which paint alone cannot describe.
